Neuer Job, weniger Zeit / New job, less time

Vor kurzem habe ich meinen neuen Job angefangen. Mein vorheriger Job war Teilzeit und hatte einen deutlich längeren Arbeitsweg. Dieser ist Vollzeit hat dafür aber einen kurzen Arbeitsweg. Mehr Geld, ein wenig mehr Schlaf, mehr Arbeitstage. Und dadurch weniger Zeit für das Updaten meines Blogs und stricken - oder weniger wichtige Dinge wie Putzen und sowas. ;)

Recently I started my new job. While my previous job was part time with a much longer way to work, this is full time with a nice short way to work. More money, a little more sleep, more work days. And less time for updating the blog and knitting - or less important things like cleaning and such. ;)

Ich habe ein paar Sockenpaare gestrickt, seit dem letzten Bloggen. Die Berlin Socken (in Tausendschön Luftschloß) waren schnell fertig geworden. Außerdem habe ich Anni Designs Celebration Socken, Anni Designs May Day Socken (beide aus YarnAddict Merino Sockenwolle aus dem Sock Club) und Monkey Toes Bellatrix Socken gestrickt (aus Handgefärbt Merino medium Feengarten, das Pattern gibt es auf Ravelry). Letztere sind mir ein wenig zu weit geraten, aber da werde ich dann oben einfach ein wenig Gummiband einhäkeln, dann geht das schon. Gerade auf den Nadeln habe ich die Slippery Socks aus der Knitty (in Handgefärbt Merino medium Kupferdrache), von denen habe ich aber noch keine Bilder. Außerdem habe ich - verspätet wie immer - Mystic Light angefangen (in Sheepaints Marisilk Meereskönigin).

I've knit a couple of sock pairs since my last blog entry. The Berlin socks (in Tausendschön colorway Luftschloß) were finished quickly. Next I knit Anni Design's Celebration socks and Anni Design's May Day socks (both knit in YarnAddict Merino sock yarn that I got along with the patterns in the sock club) and then a pair of Monkey Toes Bellatrix (in Handgefärbt Feengarten, the pattern is available on Ravelry). The Bellatrix turned out a little too wide, but I will put some elastic into the cuff and that should do the trick. On the needles right now are a pair Slippery Socks from the Knitty (in HandgefärbtMerino medium colorway Kupferdrache). I do not yet have a picture of those though. Also I've cast on - late as always - the Mystic Light shawl (in Sheepaints Marisilk colorway Meereskönigin).

Des weiteren habe ich mich endlich getraut. Ich habe mein ersten Strickteil angefangen, welches kein Accessoire wird: Isabella aus der Knitty. Ich habe dafür auch Rowan Cotton besorgt, weil ich die wage Hoffnung hatte, daß meine Maschenprobe dann ähnlich ausfallen würde. Weit gefehlt. Weeeeeeit gefehlt. Ich strickt wohl sehr locker. Dabei werden meine Maschen durchaus sehr straff finde ich - außer auf der linken Seite. Ich kann nicht straff links stricken. Na ja, mit der Übung kommt's vielleicht irgendwann nochmal. Mit Hilfe eines Taschenrechners, Maßbandes und eines hilfreichen Onlinetools, habe ich es glaube ich aber geschafft es vernünftig umzurechnen. Ich hätte das Muster eh umrechnen müssen, da ich leider nicht so eine Taille habe, wie sich das Muster dachte, daß ich haben sollte... Noch sieht das was ich auf der Nadel habe auch so aus, als würde es dann passen, wenn's mal fertig ist. Ich bin ja mal gespannt. Ich versuche auch nicht zuviel vom ersten Shirt zu erwarten, ich weiß sowas geht oft schief. Es soll ja nicht mein letzter Pulli/Tank Top/Shirtiges werden.

I can also tell you that I've finally found the courage. I cast on my first knitted thing that isn't an accessory: Isabella from the Knitty. I actually bought the yarn from the pattern (Rowan Cotton) because I had hoped my gauge would be close to the original gauge then. I was wrong. Veeeeeeery wrong. I seem to be knitting extremely loosely. Although I have to say I think my stitches are quite tight. At least the knit stitches that is. I can't seem to purl tightly... Maybe that'll come with practice, though. Anyway, with the help of a calculator, a measuring tape and helpful online tool I believe I managed to recalculate the pattern into something that might turn out something wearable. I would've had to change the pattern somewhat anyway since I do not really have the kind of waist the pattern thinks I should be having. So far what's on my needles looks like it could actually fit once it's done. I'm eager to see how this will turn out. I'm trying not to expect too much from my first shirt, I've done my research and know these things don't always turn out as they should. And I don't want this to be my last (attempt at a) shirt.

Ich war am14.6. auch auf dem Stricktag - in der Hanseaten Gruppe auf Ravelry war ja ein Treffen organisiert worden (noch mal vielen Dank für tolle Organisation!) und da bin ich hin. Für mich das erste Mal stricken unter andern Strickern. Strickerinnen sollte ich sagen, weil es waren ja nur Frauen da. :) Es hat mir wirklich viel Spaß gemacht und es ist schön zu sehen, daß es da draußen wirklich Leute gibt, die mir - zumindest was meine Vorliebe zum Stricken angeht - ähnlich sind und nicht nur freundlich lächeln und nicken wenn ich über mein aktuelles Strickstück oder ein tolles Muster oder sowas rede - nicht so wie mein Mann. ;)

On June 14th I went to a knitting meeting for the World Wide Knit in Public Day like so many others. In the Hanseaten group on Ravelry a meeting had been organized and that's where I went (thanks again for the great organisation!). For me this was the first time among fellow knitters. Female knitters one and all. :) I had a lot of fun and it was nice to see, that there really are more people who are like me when it comes to knitting and do not just smile politely and nod when I'm talking about a piece of knitting or a pretty pattern - like my husband would. ;)

Noch dazu habe ich sogar was gewonnen! 16 Knäul weiche beige-farbene Wolle, die danach schreit zu einer Strickjacke gemacht zu werden. Um was es sich genau handelt kann ich gerade nicht schreiben, da ich mich bei der Arbeit befinde und meinen Stash logischerweise nicht dabei habe. ;) Ich habe nicht mal ein Strickprojekt dabei, weil sich die Fahrstrecke mit der U-Bahn zur Arbeit und zurück leider so gar nicht zum Stricken eignet. Die Bahn wird einfach immer zu voll. :(

I even managed to win something! 16 skeins of soft beige yarn that's screaming at me to make a cardigan out of it. I can't tell you exactly what it is right now, since I am at work and of course I don't carry my stash to work. ;) I don't even have a knitting project along because the way to and from work is completely unsuable for knitting. The subway just tends to be way too full. :(

Etwas was jetzt ganz gefährlich ist an meinem neuen Job: Wenn ich jetzt von der Arbeit komme, hat der kleine Wolladen (am Fuhlsbüttlerbahnhof), an dem ich immer vorbei gehe auf dem Heimweg, noch auf. Bisher war ich gerade erst einmal in dem Laden drin, weil er einfach immer zu hat wenn ich gerade Zeit habe oder zufällig dort vorbei gehe. Aber dank meines neuen Jobs gehe ich jetzt früher an der Stelle vorbei als zuvor. Bisher habe ich widerstanden, aber das Schaufenster ist schon sehr hübsch anzusehen...

There is something about my new job that is really dangerous: Now when I come home from work the small yarn shop (at the Fuhlsbüttel subway station), which I always walk passed on my way home, is still open. I have been only once in that yarn shop since it's usually closed whenever I have time or coincidently in the vicinity. But thanks to my new job I walk by that place earlier than before. So far I've managed to resist, but the things in the window look really pretty...

Stricken und so / Knitting and stuff

Meine Big Basin Socken hatte ich ja schon letzte Woche fertiggestellt (das Muster gibt es in der Six Sox KAL yahoo group). Müssen jetzt nur noch gewaschen werden. Sie sehen aber schon mal sehr schön aus. Aufmerksame werden vielleicht bemerken, daß ich einen kleinen Fehler in das Muster eingebaut habe. Die baby cables hätten nämlich eigentlich auf dem Fuß nur auf der mittlersten Rippe auftauchen sollen... Das fiel mir aber erst auf als ich schon halb durch die Ferse des ersten Socken durch war. Ja ja, wer lesen kann ist klar im Vorteil... ;)

I had already completed my Big Basin socks last week (the pattern can be found in the files of the yahoo group Six Sox KAL). I only have to wash them now. They are very pretty though. Observant readers might notice a little error I managed to get into those socks. The baby cables were supposed to only appear on the middle rib along the foot... I realized that when I had already been half through the heel of the first sock. Well, I should pay more attention to what I am reading I suppose. ;)

Ich habe dann gleich nachdem die Big Basins fertig waren das zweite Sockenmuster den SKP2008 angeschlagen. Berlin heißen die und ich stricke sie in Tausendschön Luftschloß. Sehr schön sieht das aus. Das Muster ist aber nicht sonderlich dehnbar wie ich finde, da passen sie mir nur so gerade eben, wenn ich sie mit 3mm Nadeln und 60Maschen stricke. Und natürlich muß ich den Fuß viel länger machen - da wiederhole ich das Muster 4,5 mal anstatt der 3 mal die in der Anleitung stehen. So ist das halt wenn man große Füße hat wie meiner einer. Der zweite Socken ist inzwischen auch schon mehr als halb fertig. Und ich weiß auch schon welche Socken ich als nächstes anschlagen werde. :)

Once I had finished the Big Basins, I cast on the second pattern in the SKP2008. They are called Berlin and I am knitting them in Tausendschön's Luftschloß. Very pretty. The pattern is not all that stretchy, I think. The socks are a tight fit when I knit them with 3mm needles and 60 stitches. And of course I need to lengthen the foot - I am repeating the pattern 4.5 times instead of the 3 times called for. That's what it's like when you have big feet like me. The second sock is already more than half done. And I already know which socks I will cast on next. :)

Ich habe auch am Spring Shawl Surprise weitergestrickt. Bin inzwischen zu mehr als Hälfte durch Hinweis 10 durch. Ich habe mir vorgenommen den Shawl bis zum 1. Juni fertig zu stellen. Sollte eigentlich zu schaffen sein.

I have also continued knitting Spring Shawl Surprise. I am more than halfway through clue 10 now. I have set myself a deadline for this project: I want to be finished by June, 1st. Should be doable, I think.

Des weiteren habe ich diese Woche mir endlich eine neue Gitarre bestellt. Ich habe zufällig bei Thomann das Modell gesehen welches ich haben wollte: Ibanez 320 FMTL. Die ist inzwischen schwer zu bekommen, weil sie wohl schon seit einigen Jahren nicht mehr hergestellt wird (zumindest nach dem was ich so herausbekommen konnte). Ich hatte sie schon einmal Probe gespielt und sie gefiel mir sehr gut. Bei Thomann hatte sie nun zufällig noch ein Ausstellungsstück da, zwar mit Spielspuren aber dafür bekomme ich dann auch noch Rabatt. Noch ist sie nicht hier, weil die DHL mal wieder zu faul ist mir Dinge bis an die Tür zu bringen... Mein Mann wird sie mir am Dienstag vom Postamt abholen. Ich werde sie dann am kommenden Freitag mit zu meinem Gitarrero nehmen (Mirko Raatz) und ihn da noch mal einen Blick drauf werfen lassen. Wenn sie Mängel hat, die viel Geld in der Reparatur kosten würden, würde sie halt erstmal wieder zurück gehen und schaue mich weiter um. Gespannt bin ich aber trotzdem. Vor allem will endlich mal auf einem wirklich guten Instrument spielen, meine alte Anfängergitarre tut's einfach nicht mehr.

Also, I've finally ordered myself a new guitar this week. While I was browsing on Thomann I noticed that they had the guitar I'd been looking for for a while: Ibanez 320 FMTL. That model is hard to get now because it isn't being produced anymore (that's what I've been able to find out anyway). I had already test-played that guitar once and I had liked it a lot. Thomann coincidently still had one on display. It has been played and has some marks due to that but I get a discount on it. It's not here yet because the DHL (package delivery service) is once again too lazy to actually deliver packages to me... My husband will pick it up from the post office for me on tuesday. On friday I'll take it along to my Gitarrero (Mirko Raatz), to let him look it as well. If it's got defects that will cost me a lot to repair, I'll let it go back and will have to go on looking. I'm still excited though. I want to finally play on a really good instrument. My old beginner's guitar just isn't cutting it anymore.

T-2

Nur noch zwei Tage bis zur Hochzeit. Wirklich aufgeregt bin ich (noch) nicht. Ich schätze mal ich bin einfach noch zu gestresst um aufgeregt zu sein. Samstag sieht es dann vermutlich anders aus. ;) Seit gestern morgen sieht es auch noch so aus als würde ich rechtzeitig zur Hochzeit noch mal schnell einen Schnupfen bekommen. Stürmisch genug ist es ja im Moment, allerdings kann ich nicht gerade sagen, daß ich mich in letzter Zeit verkühlt hätte. Aber auch hier dran ist schätze ich mal der Stress der letzten Wochen Schuld. Ich habe sofort angefangen dagegen anzugehen, sonst liege ich nachher noch richtig flach! Das wäre ja momentan gerade ein wenig unpraktisch. ;)

Only two days to the wedding. I am not really excited (yet). I think I am currently just still a little bit too stressed to be excited. Saturday that'll likely change. ;) Yesterday morning I woke up with what seems to be a cold - just in time for the wedding. The weather here is currently rather wet and stormy but I don't think that's really cause (especially not since I am used to weather like this in autumn and early spring/late winter). Once again I think the stress is to blame for it. I immediately started fighting the cold since I don't want to get to really sick! Currently that would be rather inconvenient. ;)

Ich habe ein Paar fingerlose Handschuhe fertig gestellt, aber da sie für meine Wollprinzessin gedacht sind kann ich sie hier leider noch nicht zeigen. Ich finde aber das sie sehr hübsch geworden sind. Wenn die Wollfee Aktion durch ist werde ich Bilder posten und etwas zum Muster schreiben.

I have finished a pair of fingerless mittens that I can't show off yet since they are meant to go to my swap partner. But I think they turned out rather nicely. I will post picures here and talk about the pattern once the swap is done.

Der erste Jacobean für den Sock Knitting Pentathlon 2008 ist auch fertig. Mir ist der Schaft allerdings zu lang und am Ende ein wenig eng. Ich mußte ja fünf mal das Diamant-Muster wiederholen um nicht disqualifiziert zu werden und jetzt geht die Socke in der Länge zu ca. 2/3 meine Wade rauf. Noch dazu ist das Muster nicht wirklich mein Geschmack und recht langweilig zu stricken. Ich hoffe das nächste Sockenmuster wird interessanter.

Also, I've completed the first Jacobean for the Sock Knitting Pentathlon 2008. But the cuff is too long and a bit too tight at the end. I had to repeat the diamond pattern five times in order not to be disqualified and now the sock reaches 2/3 of the way up my calf. On top of that the pattern isn't really my thing and rather boring to knit. I hope the next patter will be more interesting.

So meine Gitarre ruft mich. Morgen bin ich wieder bei meinem Gitarrenlehrer und ich möchte ihm zeigen können, daß ich ja doch ein paar Fortschritte gemacht habe. :)

Now my guitar is calling me. Tomorrow I will be seeing my guitar teacher again and I really want to be able to show him that I've made a little progress. :)

Perlenfischer Broadripple Socken / Socks

So da ich gerade etwas Zeit habe und die Bilder eh schon bearbeitet sind (und auch schon auf Ravelry zu sehen), dachte ich mir ich mache nochmal schnell einen Post und zeige mal meine Broadripple Socken im schönen Tausendschön Garn Perlenfischer. Die Socken sind heute erst fertig geworden. Und es ist gut, daß sie schon fertig sind, da ich am Sock Knitting Pentathlon teilnehme und ab 1. März da das gestricke losgeht. :)

Since I have a little time and the pictures are already edited (and can be seen on Ravelry), I thought I'd make a quick post here and show off my new Broadripple Socks in the beautiful Tausendschön yarn Perlenfischer. These Socks have just been finished today. Good thing, I got them done now. I am participating in the Sock Knitting Pentathlon and starting March 1st, I'll be knitting socks as fast as I can for that. :)

Stressreiche Zeiten / Stressful times

So nach langer Zeit nun auch mal wieder ein Post von mir. Ich bin in letzter Zeit immer sehr gestresst und hatte dann nicht mehr so recht die Muße noch Bilder zu bearbeiten oder einen Post zu schreiben. Nach der Hochzeit sollte es eigentlich besser werden - hoffe ich. ;)

A new post after a long silence. Lately I've been quite stressed and didn't find the time, peace or energy to edit pictures and write a post. Once the wedding is over it should be getting better - I hope. ;)

Mein Tuch ist inzwischen fertig. Letzte Woche Dienstag hatte ich es fertig gestrickt, am Wochenende dann gewaschen und geblockt und Montag habe ich die Stecknadeln wieder rausgenommen und gleich mal Bilder davon gemacht. Es ist wirklich schön geworden. Da freue ich mich schon drauf es zu tragen. :)

My shawl is now finished. Tuesday last week I had completed the knitting, at the weekend I washed and blocked it and on monday I took the pins out again and took pictures of it right away. It's really beautiful. I am looking forward to wearing it. :)

Mein Hochzeitskleid ist übrigens auch rechtzeitig fertig geworden. Gestern hat mein Zukünftiger es abgeholt. Da freue ich mich auch schon tierisch drauf es zu tragen. :D Alles was noch fehlt für die Hochzeit ist eine Hose für meinen Kerl, die Friseurtermine für meine Wenigkeit und der Blumenstrauß. Um die beiden letzteren Punkte kümmere ich mich morgen. Die Hose kann hoffentlich am Freitag besorgt werden. Es ist übrigens sehr schwer für Männer Hemden in anderen Farben als Hellblau, Rosa und Weiß zu bekommen. Die üblichen Herrenausstatter und Brautmodengeschäfte haben da rein gar nichts. Wir haben am Ende im Alsterhaus (einen großen Kaufhaus an der Hamburger Alster) zwei Hemden bekommen: Eins in Lila und eins in Schwarz. Da die Weste nun schon schwarz ist, wird er das lila-farbene Hemd zur Hochzeit tragen. Sieht auch sehr schick aus damit. :)

My wedding dress has been finished in time as well. Yesterday my husband-to-be picked it up for me. I am really looking forward to wearing that as well. :D All that's missing for our wedding now are pants for my guy, appointments with a hairdresser for me and the bouquet of flowers I'll be carrying. I'll be taking care about the last two points tomorrow. The pants we will hopefully be able to get friday. By the way, it is unbelievably hard to get men's shirts in any other colors than baby-blue, pale pink and white. The usual men's outfitters and bridal shops don't have anything else. In the end we were able to get two shirts at the Alsterhaus (which is a big department store at the river Alster in Hamburg): One in violet and one in black. Since the vest he'll be wearing is already black, he'll be wearing the violet shirt to the wedding. And he does look quite fine in it. :)

Ich habe am letzten Freitag mein ersten Paket von meiner Wollfee erhalten. Vielen lieben Dank nochmal, Wollfee. Da habe ich mich sehr gefreut und Teile davon sind auch schon im Einsatz - so wie die Schokolade z.B., da kann ich nicht widerstehen. ;) Meine Katzen lassen ausrichten, daß sie sich sehr über den kleinen Karton und das Geschenkpapier gefreut haben. Ich durfte es bisher noch nicht entsorgen. Wann immer ich versuche es wegzunehmen, hören sie daß, kommen angelaufen und schauen mich ganz böse an...

Last friday, I have received my first Wollfee (wool fairy) package. Once again a big thank you, Wollfee. I'm really happy with what I got from you and parts of it are even already in use - like the chocolate for example; I simply can't resist chocolate. ;) My cats want me to tell you that they are really pleased with the box and wrapping paper. I have not been allowed to throw it away. Whenever I try to take it away, they hear, come runnign and look at me all displeased and angry...

Den Perlenfischer und die Socken, die ich daraus stricke, zeige ich euch beim nächsten Mal. Bin noch nicht mit allen Bildern fertig. :)

Nicht viel zu erzählen / Not much to tell

Ich kam in der letzten Zeit leider nicht dazu hier zu posten, wie ich es eigentlich vor hatte. Es gab einfach immer so viel zu tun und eigentlich nicht viel zu erzählen.

Recently I haven't been able to post here as I had intended to. I just had too much to do and not enough to tell.

Letzte Woche Montag ist mein erstes Abo von Tausendschön eingetroffen. Perlenfischer, heißt es. Und ich hatte es auch gleich fotografiert, bin aber noch nicht dazu gekommen, die Bilder auch zu bearbeiten. Vielleicht schaffe ich es am Wochenende. Dann werde ich sie auch posten. Perlenfischer ist auf jeden Fall wunderschön und ich habe auch schon die eine oder andere Idee, was ich daraus stricken könnte. :)

Monday before last my first installment of my Tausendschön subscription arrived. It is called Perlenfischer - pearl-fischer. I had taken photos right away, however I have not yet had the time to edit them. Maybe I'll get around to it on the weekend. If so then I'll be posting them then. Pearl-fisher is a very beautiful yarn and I already have a couple of ideas for what I could knit out of it.

Ich habe in dieser Woche auch schon ein paar Dinge für das erste Paket an meine Wollprinzessin besorgt, verrate aber nicht um was es sich handelt. ;) Ich möchte noch ein oder zwei andere Dinge besorgen, die mit ins Paket können und dann wenn ich alles zusammen habe auch gleich losschicken. Ich freue mich ja total über das Paket was ich zusammenstelle. Das ist wie Weihnachten nur ohne den ganzen Stress und das Kopfzerbrechen... Irgendwie ist es viel leichter für meine Wollprinzessin etwas zu besorgen als für meine Familie oder die meines fast-Mannes.

I have already gathered a few things for the package to my yarn princess (Wollprinzessin) but I won't tell you what it is. ;) I still have one or two things that I'd like to get and put into this first package but once I have them I'll send it right off. I'm really happy about this package-making process. It's like christmas just without the stress and the lack of ideas... Somehow it's a lot easier to figure out what to get for my yarn princess than it is when it comes to my family or the family of my almost-husband.

Mein Korppi-Tuch ist jetzt fast fertig. Ich arbeite gerade nur noch den unteren Rand und bin mit dem auch schon halb durch. Ich schätze bis Mitte nächster Woche wird es fertig gestrickt sein und muß dann nur noch geblockt werden. Ich liebe das Tuch über alles, es sieht einfach wahnsinnig schön aus - aber mann, ist da viel Arbeit drin! :D

My Korppi-Shawl is almost done. I'm currently working on the edging and am already about half-way through with that. I would say that I'll be done with the knitting by the mid of next week and it'll only have to be blocked then. I love this shawl so much and it's soooo beautiful - but boy, it's a whole lot of work! :D

Diese Woche habe ich außerdem schon wieder Wolle gekauft. Als würde ich noch mehr Sockenwolle wirklich brauchen... Aber ich konnte nicht widerstehen. Dienstage sind eh meine schwachen Tage, weil ich da von 6Uhr morgens bis 19:30-20:00Uhr unterwegs bin und ausgerechnet da, hab ich natürlich am abend die Info erhalten das handgefaerbt.com neue Wolle im Shop hat... Ich bin da also auf die Site gegangen, hab sie gesehen und bin fast ausgerastet... Zum einen war sie in einem schönen Fantasy-Theme gehalten und da ich Fantasy sehr mag, war es da eh schon fast um mich geschehen. Zum anderen waren die Farben einfach nur irre... So was von schön. Ich habe also ein bißchen was bestellt. Na ja, vielleicht auch ein bißchen mehr als ein bißchen... Ich werde Bilder posten, wenn die Wolle hier ist.

This week I also ordered some more yarn. As if I needed any more sock yarn... But I just couldn't resist. Tuesdays are my weak days anyway, since I am out of the house from 6am until 7:30-8pm and once I get home I'm just dead - and of course it had to be that day that I got the information that handgefaerbt.com had new yarn in stock. So I went to that site, saw the yarn and went a little nuts... They had a fantasy theme for the yarn and I love fantasy, so I was basically already done for. Also, the colors were just crazily, unbelievably beautiful. So, I ended up ordering some. Actually, it was definately more than "some"... I'll be posting pictures, once the yarn is here.

Es wächst / It's growing

Ich habe seit meinem letzten Eintrag fast nur an meinem Irtfa'a Tuch gearbeitet. Heißt es jetzt eigentlich Irtfa'a oder Irtfa's? Ich bin verwirrt, ich hatte ersteres für einen Tipper gehalten und immer letzteres geschrieben aber inzwischen bin ich mir da nicht mehr so sicher... Aber egal. Das Tuch wächst und das auch recht schnell. Ich habe langsam aber sicher doch mehr Hoffnung, daß ich es noch bis zur Hochzeit fertigstellen kann. :)

Since my last entry I've almost solely been working on my Irtfa'a shawl. By the way, is it Irtfa'a or Irtfa's? I am totally confused about that. At first I had though Irtfa'a was a typo and always wrote Irtfa's but now I am not so sure anymore... Anyway, the shawl is growing and that even quite quickly. My hope that the shawl will be finished in time for my wedding is growing respectively. ;)

Ich habe außerdem mal wieder so einige Sachen bestellt - größtenteils Sochenwolle. Zum einen ein 3 Monatsabo von Tausendschön um mal zu sehen wie die Wolle so ist, viele schwören ja da drauf. Dann war ich noch mal wieder bei Marianne's Opalwolle und habe mir eigentlich nur ein 3,5mm Nadelspiel bestellen wollen - Ebenholz, bin ja mal gespannt wie es sich damit stricken läßt - dabei habe ich aber auch irgendwie so hübsche Wolle gesehen, daß ich mir da noch was von mit nehmen mußte - ich wollte ja schon seit einiger Zeit die Clessidra Socken von der Frühlings Knitty 2007 stricken und brauchte dafür noch genug von einer Farbe - und dann ist es gleich noch ein wenig mehr geworden... *hüstel*

Once again I have ordered a few things - mostly sock yarn. I bought the three month subscription for Tausendschön to see what that yarn is like since I've heard many people praise it. Then I was once again at Mariannes Opalwolle and actually only wanted to get myself 3.5mm DPNs - ebony, I'm curious to see what knitting with those will be like. While I was looking for those I somehow came across some really pretty yarn and somehow it ended up in my shopping cart - I have been wanting to knit the Clessidra stockings from the Knitty Spring 2007 edition and needed enough yarn in one color for those - and somehow I ended up buying even more yarn... *cough*

Ich liebäugle ja auch schon einige Zeit mit ein paar weiteren Dingen... Stricktechnisch sind da zum einen die Knit Picks Harmony Sets (Options und DPNs), die ich wunderschön finde und mir unbedingt noch mal zulegen muß. Zum anderen finde ich mich auch immer wieder im Wollmeise-Shop und schaue mir dort die schönen Stränge an. Wenn ich da ein Abo gefunden hätte, hätte ich mir das glaube ich schon geholt. Ich habe nämlich ansonsten Probleme mich zu entscheiden, da gibt es einfach zu viel schönes. ;)

For some time now I've been thinking about buying a few other things... Knitting-wise there are the Knit Picks Harmony Sets (both Options and DPNs) that I like a whole damn lot and really must have. Also I keep on stalking the Wollmeise shop and look at the beautiful yarn they have there. If they would have a club kinda thing where you get a skein each month, I probably would have joined that already. I have trouble deciding which ones I want, there are far too many pretty ones. ;)

Außerdem spare ich im Moment auf eine neue E-Gitarre. Ich hätte wirklich wirklich gerne diese Ibanez und möchte sie demnächst mal Probespielen gehen. Ich werde aber außerdem noch die eine oder andere ESP (aus der 200 Serie) antesten und vermutlich auch noch eine andere Ibanez RG und werde mich dann für die entscheiden, die sich am Besten spielt. Ich will aber im Bereich 500€ bleiben. Ansonsten müßte ich eine Niere verkaufen.

I am currently saving up money for a new electric guitar. I'd really like to have this Ibanez and want to go test-play it soon. I will however also test-play a few ESP (200 series) and like a few other Ibanez RGs and will then decide which one I feel most comfortable playing on. I need to stay at around 500€ in price though. Otherwise I'd have to sell a kidney.

Es gibt außerdem ja noch ein paar Dinge, die ich dieses Jahr gerne ausprobieren möchte. Zum einen das Färben von Wolle. Da werde ich mir wohl das nötige Material für besorgen, nachdem ich mir die Gitarre gekauft habe... Und zum anderen bin ich total neugierig auf's Spinnen geworden. Ich gebe die Schuld dafür dem Lime & Violet Podcast, den ich in letzter Zeit total gerne höre... ;) Ich möchte außerdem mal das Nadelbinden ausprobieren - ich habe ja Freunde, die als Wikinger auf Mittelaltermärkten zu finden sind und für die würde ich gerne ein paar historisch korrekte Dinge machen. Außerdem möchte ich dieses Jahr zwei Pullover stricken - einen für mich und einen für meinen fast-Mann, der hat sich nämlich einen mit dem BMP Muster drauf gewünscht. Mal sehen ob ich das alles schaffe, ich versuche ja auch immer noch nebenbei mir Finnisch beizubringen und brauche auch noch Zeit für meinen Computer (spielen und programmieren und... stuff ;) ) und für meine E-Gitarre und für's Lesen und und und und... Ich frage mich ob ich vielleicht ein paar zu viele Hobbies habe. :D Na ja, wenigstens habe ich so viel Abwechslung in meinem Leben. ;)

There are a couple of things I want to try this year. For one thing, I'd really like to try dyeing yarn. I'll probably get myself the needed materials after I've bought my guitar... Also I'm now really curious about spinning. I blame the Lime & Violet Podcast I've been listening to lately for that... ;) Another thing I'd like to try is Naalbinding. I have friends who stay as vikings on medival faires, they sleep there in viking tents and all that even. I'd like to make a few small historically correct things for them. Also, I'd like to make two sweaters this year. One for my hubby-to-be because he wanted one with the BMP pattern on it. And the other one will be for me. I'll have to see which of these things I'll actually get around to because I am also teaching myself Finnish and I need time for my computer (playing and programming) and for my guitar and for reading and... I'm wondering if it might be that I have a few too many hobbies. :D Well at least I have variety in my life. ;)

Ach ja, und die Wollfee Aktion hat ja jetzt begonnen. Habe auch schon Post von meiner Wollfee erhalten - falls du dies hier liest, liebe Wollfee, grüße ich dich mal ganz lieb auf diesem Weg - und mich auch bei meiner Wollprinzessin gemeldet. Hab auch schon ein paar Ideen was ich tun könnte. Dies ist meine erste Aktion und dieser Art und ich bin total gespannt und aufgeregt und all diese guten Dinge. :)

Oh, and the Wollfee swap has now started. I already recieved an email from my Wollfee - if you are reading this, lovely fairy of the wooly nature, well met *waves* - and I've also already send an email to my wool princess... Hmm... Yarn princess sounds better, I think... Anyway, I have a couple of ideas for what I could do for her. This is my first secret pal swap and I'm really happy and excited and all that good stuff. ;)

Korppi

Mein Korppi ist endlich angekommen. Und es ist wunderschön und weich und ein Traum. :) I habe Stunden gebraucht um es zu wickeln, aber das war es Wert. :) Bisher habe ich nur den Kragen von Irtfa's Faroese Raven Shawl zu mehr bin ich gestern dann nicht mehr gekommen als ich von der Schneiderin wieder da war. Mein Kleid wird übrigens auch ein absoluter Traum werden. ;)

My Korppi has finally arrived. It's beautiful and soft and just a dream. :) It took me hours to wind it into a cake, but it was worth the effort. :) So far I only managed to knit the collar piece of Irtfa's Faroese Raven Shawl. I didn't have time for more after I came home from the dress maker last evening. My dress will also be quite dreamy. ;)

Ich bin inzwischen beim dritten Teil vom SpringShawlSurprise angekommen. Zuerst war ich mir ja nicht ganz sicher, ob ich das Muster wirklich mögen würde, aber inzwischen mag ich es sehr gut leiden und es macht Spaß es zu stricken. Ich hatte auch bisher noch keine größeren Probleme. Manchmal habe ich einen Umschlag vergessen oder einen zuviel gemacht, aber das läßt sich ja ohne größere Probleme ausbessern. Und jetzt kenne ich das Muster auch soweit, daß ich nicht mehr jede einzelne Masche abzählen muß.

I am now knitting the third clue of the SpringShawlSurprise. At first I wasn't absolutely sure if I was going to like the pattern. But now I've come to like it a lot and it's a lot of fun to knit. So far I haven't had any big problems with the pattern. Here and there I forgot to do a yarn over or made one to many but that's easy to fix. I know the pattern quite well now and don't have to count every single stich anymore.

Mehr gibt's im Moment nicht zu erzählen. Ich hab im Moment auch immer viel zu tun, so mit Arbeit und Hochzeitsvorbereitungen... Die Hochzeit wird übrigens am 15.3. sein - aber wir werden erst im Herbst/Winter richtig wegfahren. Wir wollen dann nach Finnland und dort ist es im Spätherbst/Winter sehr schön mit der Kälte und dem Schnee... Wir werden aber immerhin für ein Wochenende nach der Hochzeit nach Helsinki und dann den Rest der Woche daheim verbringen und uns vom Stress der letzten Monate ausruhen. ;)

I don't really have any more to tell. Currently I'm always quite busy what with work and wedding preparations... The wedding will be March, 15th - but we'll be going on our real honeymoon in fall/winter. We want to go to Finland and in late autumn/winter it's especially pretty there with the cold weather and the snow... We will however be going to Helsinki for a weekend after the wedding and then take a week off and stay at home and relax and destress - which will be needed by then. ;)

Bilingual

Ich habe mich entschieden dieses Blog jetzt zweisprachig zu machen. Ich werde an der Wollfee 7 Aktion teilnehmen und das ist eigentlich eine deutschsprachige Aktion. Es kann somit also meiner Wollfee nur behilflich sein.

Ich warte immer noch auf mein Korppi. Es befindet sich jetzt immerhin schon mal im Zoll und sollte damit bald hier sein. In der Zwischenzeit habe ich meine Wolle von der Hamburger Wollfabrik bekommen und habe den Spring Shawl Surprise angeschlagen. Ich bin immer noch beim ersten Teil und werde bei allen knitalongs hinterher hinken, aber das macht mir nichts aus. Es macht ja trotzdem Spaß. Soweit sieht das SSS Muster schon sehr nett aus und es macht Spaß es zu stricken. Und die 100% Merino lace weight Wolle von der Wollfabrik fühlt sich ganz wunderbar an und ist sehr schön. Sobald ich ein paar Bilder mache werde ich sie hier posten.

I'm still waiting on my Korppi. It's in customs now so it should be here some time soon at least. In the meantime, I've got my yarn from the Hamburger Wollfabrik and cast on the Spring Shawl Surprise. I am still on the first clue and I will be horribly behind with all the knitalongs but I don't mind really. It's still fun. And so far the SSS pattern looks really interesting and it's been fun to knit. And the 100% merino lace weight yarn from the Wollfabrik feels and looks just great. I'll be posting a picture as soon as I'll take one. :)

Mein erster Endpaper Mitt ist fast fertig - aber er wird zu klein sein. I werde ihn noch mal mit 3,5mm Nadeln stricken müssen. Der Handschuh hat die Größe, die er hätte haben sollen, hätte ich ihn mit 2,5mm Nadeln gestrickt. Ich schätze, das sollte mich lehren Probeläppchen zu stricken... Ich werde das zu kleine Paar trotzdem beenden und werde sie verschenken. Ich sollte genug Garn haben, um ein zweiten Paar eine Nummer größer in den selben Farben zu stricken.

My first Endpaper Mitt is almost finished - but it will be too small. I'll have to knit it again with 3.5mm needles. It has the size they should have had, had I used 2.5mm needles. I guess that should teach me to swatch... I'll be finishing the pair that is too small anyway and will be giving them away to someone. I should have enough yarn to make another pair in the same colors one size bigger.

The following will be the Wollfee questionaire. For now only in German, but I'll be translating it when I have the time and will be posting it here in English as well (probably some time later this week).

So hier kommt nun der Wollfee Fragebogen. Erstmal nur in Deutsch, ich werde ihn aber beizeiten übersetzen und dann nochmal in Englisch online stellen (vermutlich irgendwann später in dieser Woche).

1.Mit welchen Wollsorten (aus welchem Material) strickst Du gerne? Welche Wollsorten magst Du gar nicht?

Also generell mag ich alles was weich ist. Bei Sachen, die ich länger auf der Haut trage ist das besonders wichtig, da meine Haut sonst sehr leicht irritiert ist und juckt. Viele „langhaarige“ Garne sind mir oft schon zu kratzig. Bei Sockenwolle ist es weniger wichtig wie weich die Wolle ist, da ist es wichtiger, das sie auch was aushält. Ansonsten mag ich natürliche Fasern lieber, nehme aber auch schonmal künstliche, wenn das Garn zum Projekt paßt.

2.Hast Du eine oder mehrere Lieblingsfarben? Welche Farbkombinationen bevorzugst Du? Uni oder lieber gestreift / bunt? Welche Farben gefallen Dir nicht?

Ich mag besonders dunkle und kräftige Farben. Schwarz, Violet, Blau und Rot sind da meine Favoriten. Ich mag aber auch sehr gerne blau-grüne Mischfarben wie z.B. Petrol. Silber und grautöne mag ich auch sehr gerne. Gelb steht mir zwar gut, mag ich aber nur in kleinen Mengen und Orange und vor allem Pink kann ich überhaupt nicht leiden. Pastelltöne lassen mich trotz meines leicht dunkleren Hauttons komplett krank aussehen und kommen deswegen nur bei Socken oder in kleinen Mengen in Frage, gleiches gilt für weiß.

3.Mit welchen Stricknadeln arbeitest Du? Rundstricknadeln, Stabnadeln, Nadelspiel? Bambus, Alu, Plastik, Holz?

Ich bevorzuge Rundstricknadeln und Nadelspiele. Bis auf meine Addi Lacenadeln versuche ich möglichst Holz, wie z.B. Bambus, zu bekommen. Ich finde sie einfach angenehmer, aber ich schätze das ist für jeden anders. ;)

4.Was strickst Du so? Socken, Tücher, Pullover, ...

Also, da ich erst ernsthaft seit knapp über einem Jahr stricke aber ich noch nicht sooooo viel unterschiedliches ausprobiert. Im Moment stricke ich an einer rundgestrickten Jacke (nix zum nähen dran ;) ) und einem paar Armstulpen. Ich habe auch schon Socken gestrickt und werde das sicherlich wieder tun und werde demnächst das eine oder andere Tuch stricken. Schals habe ich natürlich auch schon gestrickt und ein Poncho wartet hier noch darauf, daß ich die Naht nochmal neu nähe... Ich würde mir auch gerne mal ein Beret stricken, haber nicht die geringste Ahnung ob mir das überhaupt stehen würde. Ich werde in diesem Jahr außerdem mich definitiv mal an einem Pulli versuchen und... Oh, ich habe einfach viel zu viel vor. ;) Es gibt einfach viel zu viele schöne Muster und Garne...

5.Trägst Du selbstgestrickte Socken, Mützen, Handschuhe, Schals, Tücher, ...? Was trägst Du auf keinen Fall?

Ich trage sehr gerne selbstgestricktes und da auch alles durch die Bank durch. Ich habe nur bisher noch keine Mütze getragen, da mir die üblicherweise mit dem riesen Schädel, den ich habe nicht stehen. Ich hätte aber gern nochmal eine, die auch gut an mir aussieht...

6.Welche Schuhgröße hast Du? Fußlänge in Zentimetern?

Ich habe große Füße, Schuhgröße 41-42 je nachdem wie es ausfällt. Meine Fußlänge von großem Zeh bis Ende der Ferse sind 27cm. Ich habe übrigens außerdem sehr große Hände. Die meisten Damenhandschuhe sind mir zu klein...

7.Bevorzugst Du bestimmte Muster (z.B. Zopf- oder Lochmuster)? Welche Muster gehen gar nicht?

Hmmm... Also, was ich gar nicht mag sind Karromuster, Pompons, Quasten pder Noppen – zumindest nicht an Kleidungsstücken. Des weiteren mag ich nichts was wie Trachtenkleidung wirkt. Ansonsten bin ich eigentlich ganz pflegeleicht. :) Muster bevorzugen tue ich nicht wirklich.

8.Trägst Du Schmuck? Welchen? Ohrringe (mit Ohrlöchern), Ringe (Ringgröße), Uhren, Ketten, ...? Aus welchem Material (Silber, Edelstahl, Modeschmuck, ...)?

Ich trage liebend gerne Schmuck. Ich habe 6 Ohrlöcher (zwei links, vier rechts) und ein Piercing an der Ohrspitze, rechts. Ich trage auch gerne Ketten, Ringe, eigentlich alles. Silberschmuck oder aus Edel- oder Titanstahl. Anhänger hängen bei mir auch gerne mal an Lederbändern. Ich liebe Drachen – nicht die asiatischen sondern eher Fantasydrachen – und Ägyptisches, Keltisches, Altgermanisches... Diamanten und alles was wie Diamanten aussieht mag ich gar nicht. Farbige Glassteine wenn sie dezent und dunkel sind. Für Halbedelsteine gilt dasselbe... Mein Kerl ist immer sehr begeistert was meinen Schmuckgeschmack angeht weil ich da günstig bin und es für ihn sehr leicht ist für mich etwas auszuwählen. ;)

9.Liest Du gerne? Was? Oder magst Du Hörbücher? Welches Genre?

Oh, ich liebe es zu Lesen. Da bin ich allerdings wohl eher schwierig. Ich lese eigentlich nur noch in Englisch – mal von dem einen oder anderen Sachbuch abgesehen. Und da lese ich dann größtenteils Fantasy, Forgotten Realms Bücher oder Terry Pratchett. Bei Pratchett kaufe ich allerdings nur die guten, witzigen Josh Kirby-Cover Bücher und nicht die für den amerikanischen Markt. G.R.R. Martin lese ich auch gerne. Ansonsten hier und da Sci-Fi oder Gruselbücher. Hörbücher mag ich auch gerne, allerdings auch nur in Englisch. (Generel höre/lese ich Geschichten eigentlich am Liebsten in der Sprache in der sie geschrieben wurden, ich mag keine Übersetzungen.) Da sind dann auch ein paar Romantikschnulzen mit bei, vor allem Historicals – auch wenn mir das jetzt ein bißchen peinlich ist. Guilty pleasure. ;D Lesen mag ich sie eher weniger, witzigerweise, aber zum Hören sind sie in Ordnung, vor allem weil ich normalerweise dabei stricke.

10. Hast Du eine Amazonwunschliste oder etwas Ähnliches?

Ich habe mehrere Amazonwunschlisten, zwei davon sind über meine Emailaddresse oder meinen Namen zu finden, eine davon ist eine „Strickliste“. Wenn man über meinen Nachnamen sucht, findet man übrigens auch meine Brüder bei Amazon, also nicht wundern. ;) Und wenn ihr bei der Wollfee mitmacht, solltet ihr meinen Namen eigentlich leicht rausfinden können, also muß ich ihn hier nicht nochmal angeben. Wenn mir meine Fee etwas davon kaufen möchte, kann sie das gerne tun, wenn nicht ist mir das genauso lieb. Die Listen sind hier ja nur als Anregungen drin für den Fall, das es benötigt werden sollte. :)

11.Was machst Du noch gerne in Deiner Freizeit? Andere Handarbeiten oder Basteln oder ...?

Ich habe viel zu viele Hobbies. :) Aber am meisten von meiner Freizeit geht – mal vom Stricken abgesehen – im Moment für vier Dinge drauf: E-Gitarre spielen, Finnisch lernen, WoW spielen mit meinem Kerl und lesen. Ich möchte in diesem Jahr außerdem mal ausprobieren selbst Wolle zu färben, da es so aussieht als würde das Spaß machen. :)

12.Welche Musik hörst Du gerne? Kannst Du mp3s abspielen?

Ich bin ein Metalhead und ein bißchen Goth. :) Höre aber vor allem den melodischen Kram. Sonata Arctica, Tarot, Nightwish, Tyr, Kamelot, Dream Theater sind einige meiner Lieblingsbands. Ich höre außerdem aber auch Depeche Mode, Sarah McLachlan, Loreena McKennit, Persephone und diverse Filmsoundtracks. Es kommt immer drauf an, was es ist. Wenn's beides gleichzeitig ist – also praktisch und hübsch :) - dann ist das natürlich umso besser.

15.Wie ist Dein Familienstand?

Noch bin ich verlobt. Das sollte sich allerdings Anfang März ändern. Wird auch mal langsam Zeit... Eigentlich hatte wir geplant letztes Jahr Halloween zu heiraten. ;) Kinder hab' ich keine und noch sind auch keine in Produktion. Das kommt noch.

16.Hast Du Haustiere?

Ja. Zwei Katzen, die ich über alles liebe, aber die mich auch manchmal ganz schön wahnsinnig machen können. ;)

17.Hast Du Allergien?

Ein noch nicht näher definierte Pollenallergie, eine Stauballergie (meine Haut reagiert drauf), eine mal stärker mal schwächer ausgeprägte Nickelallergie und eine Allergie gegen einige Süßungsstoffe.

18.Isst Du gerne Süßes? Was besonders gerne? Was magst Du nicht?

Ooooooohhhh, ja. :D Schokolade und Lakritz gehören zu meinen Favoriten. Meine Lieblingsschokis sind After Eight und Marabou Orange (die ich leider schon seit einiger Zeit nirgendwo mehr gesehen habe :( ).

19.Trinkst Du Tee und / oder Kaffee? Welche Sorten bevorzugst Du?

Beides. Außerdem auch jedes Kaffeehaltige Heißgetränk, daß ich bisher ausprobiert habe. :) Ich habe einen Kaffeevollautomaten und trinke da besonders gerne Mövenpicks „der Himmlische“. Bei Tees mag ich eigentlich fast alles, nur reinen Fencheltee nicht. Besonders gern trinke ich da aber die Yogi-Tees und davon die Sorten Schokolade, Sweet Chai und Sweet Chili. Außerdem trinke ich auch sehr gerne Fenchel-Anis-Kümmel Tee und Apfel-Feige-Dattel Tee.

20.Hast Du einen Lieblingsduft? Magst Du Duftöle oder Duftkerzen?

Hmmm, Lieblingsdüfte... Frisch gemahlener Kaffee ;) , Vanille, Pfefferminz fallen mir jetzt ein. Duftöle und -kerzen mag ich sehr gern, ich habe allerdings kein Stövchen mehr für Duftöle.

21.Duscht Du lieber oder badest Du auch gerne?

Ich tue beides, je nach Zeit. An sich bade ich sehr sehr gerne, aber unsere Badewanne ist leider etwas klein. :(

22.Gibt es Etwas, das Du Dir schon lange wünscht? Was?

Öhm... Ein Drachentattoo? Eine neue Ibanez-Gitarre? Ein Haus? Ein Pferd? ;D Scherz beiseite, mir fällt ehrlich nichts ein was hier gut hinpassen würde.

23.Möchtest Du Deiner Wollfee noch etwas mitteilen?

Also, wie man vielleicht hier an dem Fragebogen merkt, schreibe ich meist seeeehr viel wenn ich die Zeit habe. Manchmal kann es auch ein, zwei Tage dauern bis ich die Zeit habe mich voll und ganz einer Email widmen und zu antworten. Ich hoffe das stört nicht. Desweiteren freue ich mich schon sehr auf diese Aktion und auf einen netten Kontakt mit dir! :)

Impatience, Frustration and Love

My Korppi still isn't here. Now I realize it hasn't actually been that long since I ordered - especially if you only count the actual workdays. AND it is now at least on it's way. I'm just a horribly impatient person really and I can't wait until it arrives and I can cast on my shawl with it.

My cardigan is almost finished now. Less than half a sleeve left to go. However I'm afraid I'll be running out of yarn before I'm through with it. I'll have to email Birgit Freyer and ask her if I can get a little more... My guess is that I'll be needing less than half a skein to finish the project. But I suppose this means I won't be able to finish it by this weekend and wear the damned thing. I tried it on after finishing the first sleeve last weekend and I absolutely fell in love with it then. I finally want to wear it!!! *sighs*

I started a new project yesterday, although I hadn't wanted to start a new project before I start working on my shawl. However I had ordered some - 12 skeins - Regia 4-ply sock yarn at Mariannes Opalwolle. It was a 12 skein package and she chose the colors for me which she did really well, the colors go well together. There are some colors in there I would like never have bought - like pink and beige - but this way I get more variation since I mostly go for blues, black, purples, reds and greys and no pastel colors whatsoever.

I have been itching to do some colorwork with these yarns since I opened the package last week. I hadn't really done colorwork before. I only once tried doing striped legwarmers without any pattern at all. I ended up frogging that because it looked hideous, would never have fit and was badly knit, really. That was some time early last year when I hadn't really done that much knitting yet. This time I used a pattern and my clever little knitting reference explained to em how I had to hold the yarns - and wow... I am surprised how EASY that actually is and how quickly it goes! It's a whole damn lot of fun and pattern is great. I'm knitting the Endpaper Mitts by Eunny Jang. In case I haven't made myself clear enough yet: I absolutely and utterly LOVE how this pattern is turning out! I will surely be knitting this again!

Now, I promised a picture of the Teddy Bear I made for my friend's daughter. So here it is. I found the pattern on this site when it was still up for free. It seems like one has to buy it now - but if I wouldn't already have it I believe I would do it. It was very much worth it. This is definately something I'm going to knit again should I one day find myself to be pregnant. ;)

Osiris, my little white devil, wasn't entirely sure what to think of that monstrosity but at least he didn't run scared right away... He gets very easily scared of all kind of things, especially things he knows very well and needn't be afraid of since they are inaminate and all (like socks like on the floor for example) and runs at the first sight of strangers (even people who've come to visit us weekly for years are still considered strangers by him ;) ). Nephtys, our cat, thinks he's absolutely nuts but often gets a kick out of scaring him by jumping at him all of a sudden. ;) But I digress. What I was actually trying to get at is that he was at least brave enough to hit the teddy bear. Once. :D

New Things

I decided to start my own knitting blog. So many people are doing it and it seems like a fun way to keep track of what you're doing and how it's going - and of course it's always a great place to vent. ;) I have never been good at journaling but I hope I'll be able to stick to this. I'm actually german but I'm doing this in English to practice my "knitter's vocabulary". Besides a bit portion of the knitting community is English, so why not? Maybe I'll do a dual language blog at some point - if I should really stick to this.

I am up in Ravelry as Kassandra but I'm the first to admit that there isn't really that much of interest to see on my profile page yet. Only one finished project with pictures. Got two more projects hibernating - a poncho waiting for me to redo a seam (oh, how I hate seaming) and a scarf I ran out of yarn on and I can't get any more of this yarn (haven't decided how to handle that yet) - and one I'm working hard on to finish. The one I'm currently working on is a lacey cardigan called Serenade - the design is by Birgit Freyer. This is the third time I started knitting it and this time it seems like it'll be the final and get finished. Finally. I've been working on this since last July. It seems like I am a really loose knitter and therefor the measurements of main piece were off. Each time I started it I worked on smaller kneedles - this successful time I am using 5.0 mm kneedles (that's US size 8) and that seems to do the trick. I am now about 2/3 through the first sleeve and really liking it. Can't wait to finish it.

I have about a gazillion sock patterns, fingerless mittens patterns, shawl patterns I'd love to cast on - but I'll be waiting with all of that. I'll be participating in a few knit-alongs as well, but again I'll be waiting before I start casting those on. My first priority for this year is to knit this beautiful shawl and I hope to finish it until the end of February. I'm just waiting for my yarn to arrive from the US. Ordered some of that really gorgeous Raven Clan Korppi Laci by Blue Moon Fiber Arts for this and got myself some Addi lace kneedles (along with a whole damn lot of sock yarn I bought on a whim ;) ). I will really have to finish it until the end of February because I want this to me my wedding shawl - and the wedding will be sometime during the end of February or the beginning of March. We don't quite know yet since we haven't fully decided on a place yet - and because we're really horrible at making long time plans and preperations. ;)

Well, this will be it for now. I'll post some pictures of what I'm currently working on and the one finished project I mentioned ( a teddy bear, knitted for my friends' daughter for christmas) at a later point. And once my Korppi arrives I'll be posting about how I like it in real life as opposed to on my screen.
