Stricken und so / Knitting and stuff

Meine Big Basin Socken hatte ich ja schon letzte Woche fertiggestellt (das Muster gibt es in der Six Sox KAL yahoo group). Müssen jetzt nur noch gewaschen werden. Sie sehen aber schon mal sehr schön aus. Aufmerksame werden vielleicht bemerken, daß ich einen kleinen Fehler in das Muster eingebaut habe. Die baby cables hätten nämlich eigentlich auf dem Fuß nur auf der mittlersten Rippe auftauchen sollen... Das fiel mir aber erst auf als ich schon halb durch die Ferse des ersten Socken durch war. Ja ja, wer lesen kann ist klar im Vorteil... ;)

I had already completed my Big Basin socks last week (the pattern can be found in the files of the yahoo group Six Sox KAL). I only have to wash them now. They are very pretty though. Observant readers might notice a little error I managed to get into those socks. The baby cables were supposed to only appear on the middle rib along the foot... I realized that when I had already been half through the heel of the first sock. Well, I should pay more attention to what I am reading I suppose. ;)

Ich habe dann gleich nachdem die Big Basins fertig waren das zweite Sockenmuster den SKP2008 angeschlagen. Berlin heißen die und ich stricke sie in Tausendschön Luftschloß. Sehr schön sieht das aus. Das Muster ist aber nicht sonderlich dehnbar wie ich finde, da passen sie mir nur so gerade eben, wenn ich sie mit 3mm Nadeln und 60Maschen stricke. Und natürlich muß ich den Fuß viel länger machen - da wiederhole ich das Muster 4,5 mal anstatt der 3 mal die in der Anleitung stehen. So ist das halt wenn man große Füße hat wie meiner einer. Der zweite Socken ist inzwischen auch schon mehr als halb fertig. Und ich weiß auch schon welche Socken ich als nächstes anschlagen werde. :)

Once I had finished the Big Basins, I cast on the second pattern in the SKP2008. They are called Berlin and I am knitting them in Tausendschön's Luftschloß. Very pretty. The pattern is not all that stretchy, I think. The socks are a tight fit when I knit them with 3mm needles and 60 stitches. And of course I need to lengthen the foot - I am repeating the pattern 4.5 times instead of the 3 times called for. That's what it's like when you have big feet like me. The second sock is already more than half done. And I already know which socks I will cast on next. :)

Ich habe auch am Spring Shawl Surprise weitergestrickt. Bin inzwischen zu mehr als Hälfte durch Hinweis 10 durch. Ich habe mir vorgenommen den Shawl bis zum 1. Juni fertig zu stellen. Sollte eigentlich zu schaffen sein.

I have also continued knitting Spring Shawl Surprise. I am more than halfway through clue 10 now. I have set myself a deadline for this project: I want to be finished by June, 1st. Should be doable, I think.

Des weiteren habe ich diese Woche mir endlich eine neue Gitarre bestellt. Ich habe zufällig bei Thomann das Modell gesehen welches ich haben wollte: Ibanez 320 FMTL. Die ist inzwischen schwer zu bekommen, weil sie wohl schon seit einigen Jahren nicht mehr hergestellt wird (zumindest nach dem was ich so herausbekommen konnte). Ich hatte sie schon einmal Probe gespielt und sie gefiel mir sehr gut. Bei Thomann hatte sie nun zufällig noch ein Ausstellungsstück da, zwar mit Spielspuren aber dafür bekomme ich dann auch noch Rabatt. Noch ist sie nicht hier, weil die DHL mal wieder zu faul ist mir Dinge bis an die Tür zu bringen... Mein Mann wird sie mir am Dienstag vom Postamt abholen. Ich werde sie dann am kommenden Freitag mit zu meinem Gitarrero nehmen (Mirko Raatz) und ihn da noch mal einen Blick drauf werfen lassen. Wenn sie Mängel hat, die viel Geld in der Reparatur kosten würden, würde sie halt erstmal wieder zurück gehen und schaue mich weiter um. Gespannt bin ich aber trotzdem. Vor allem will endlich mal auf einem wirklich guten Instrument spielen, meine alte Anfängergitarre tut's einfach nicht mehr.

Also, I've finally ordered myself a new guitar this week. While I was browsing on Thomann I noticed that they had the guitar I'd been looking for for a while: Ibanez 320 FMTL. That model is hard to get now because it isn't being produced anymore (that's what I've been able to find out anyway). I had already test-played that guitar once and I had liked it a lot. Thomann coincidently still had one on display. It has been played and has some marks due to that but I get a discount on it. It's not here yet because the DHL (package delivery service) is once again too lazy to actually deliver packages to me... My husband will pick it up from the post office for me on tuesday. On friday I'll take it along to my Gitarrero (Mirko Raatz), to let him look it as well. If it's got defects that will cost me a lot to repair, I'll let it go back and will have to go on looking. I'm still excited though. I want to finally play on a really good instrument. My old beginner's guitar just isn't cutting it anymore.

Es wächst / It's growing

Ich habe seit meinem letzten Eintrag fast nur an meinem Irtfa'a Tuch gearbeitet. Heißt es jetzt eigentlich Irtfa'a oder Irtfa's? Ich bin verwirrt, ich hatte ersteres für einen Tipper gehalten und immer letzteres geschrieben aber inzwischen bin ich mir da nicht mehr so sicher... Aber egal. Das Tuch wächst und das auch recht schnell. Ich habe langsam aber sicher doch mehr Hoffnung, daß ich es noch bis zur Hochzeit fertigstellen kann. :)

Since my last entry I've almost solely been working on my Irtfa'a shawl. By the way, is it Irtfa'a or Irtfa's? I am totally confused about that. At first I had though Irtfa'a was a typo and always wrote Irtfa's but now I am not so sure anymore... Anyway, the shawl is growing and that even quite quickly. My hope that the shawl will be finished in time for my wedding is growing respectively. ;)

Ich habe außerdem mal wieder so einige Sachen bestellt - größtenteils Sochenwolle. Zum einen ein 3 Monatsabo von Tausendschön um mal zu sehen wie die Wolle so ist, viele schwören ja da drauf. Dann war ich noch mal wieder bei Marianne's Opalwolle und habe mir eigentlich nur ein 3,5mm Nadelspiel bestellen wollen - Ebenholz, bin ja mal gespannt wie es sich damit stricken läßt - dabei habe ich aber auch irgendwie so hübsche Wolle gesehen, daß ich mir da noch was von mit nehmen mußte - ich wollte ja schon seit einiger Zeit die Clessidra Socken von der Frühlings Knitty 2007 stricken und brauchte dafür noch genug von einer Farbe - und dann ist es gleich noch ein wenig mehr geworden... *hüstel*

Once again I have ordered a few things - mostly sock yarn. I bought the three month subscription for Tausendschön to see what that yarn is like since I've heard many people praise it. Then I was once again at Mariannes Opalwolle and actually only wanted to get myself 3.5mm DPNs - ebony, I'm curious to see what knitting with those will be like. While I was looking for those I somehow came across some really pretty yarn and somehow it ended up in my shopping cart - I have been wanting to knit the Clessidra stockings from the Knitty Spring 2007 edition and needed enough yarn in one color for those - and somehow I ended up buying even more yarn... *cough*

Ich liebäugle ja auch schon einige Zeit mit ein paar weiteren Dingen... Stricktechnisch sind da zum einen die Knit Picks Harmony Sets (Options und DPNs), die ich wunderschön finde und mir unbedingt noch mal zulegen muß. Zum anderen finde ich mich auch immer wieder im Wollmeise-Shop und schaue mir dort die schönen Stränge an. Wenn ich da ein Abo gefunden hätte, hätte ich mir das glaube ich schon geholt. Ich habe nämlich ansonsten Probleme mich zu entscheiden, da gibt es einfach zu viel schönes. ;)

For some time now I've been thinking about buying a few other things... Knitting-wise there are the Knit Picks Harmony Sets (both Options and DPNs) that I like a whole damn lot and really must have. Also I keep on stalking the Wollmeise shop and look at the beautiful yarn they have there. If they would have a club kinda thing where you get a skein each month, I probably would have joined that already. I have trouble deciding which ones I want, there are far too many pretty ones. ;)

Außerdem spare ich im Moment auf eine neue E-Gitarre. Ich hätte wirklich wirklich gerne diese Ibanez und möchte sie demnächst mal Probespielen gehen. Ich werde aber außerdem noch die eine oder andere ESP (aus der 200 Serie) antesten und vermutlich auch noch eine andere Ibanez RG und werde mich dann für die entscheiden, die sich am Besten spielt. Ich will aber im Bereich 500€ bleiben. Ansonsten müßte ich eine Niere verkaufen.

I am currently saving up money for a new electric guitar. I'd really like to have this Ibanez and want to go test-play it soon. I will however also test-play a few ESP (200 series) and like a few other Ibanez RGs and will then decide which one I feel most comfortable playing on. I need to stay at around 500€ in price though. Otherwise I'd have to sell a kidney.

Es gibt außerdem ja noch ein paar Dinge, die ich dieses Jahr gerne ausprobieren möchte. Zum einen das Färben von Wolle. Da werde ich mir wohl das nötige Material für besorgen, nachdem ich mir die Gitarre gekauft habe... Und zum anderen bin ich total neugierig auf's Spinnen geworden. Ich gebe die Schuld dafür dem Lime & Violet Podcast, den ich in letzter Zeit total gerne höre... ;) Ich möchte außerdem mal das Nadelbinden ausprobieren - ich habe ja Freunde, die als Wikinger auf Mittelaltermärkten zu finden sind und für die würde ich gerne ein paar historisch korrekte Dinge machen. Außerdem möchte ich dieses Jahr zwei Pullover stricken - einen für mich und einen für meinen fast-Mann, der hat sich nämlich einen mit dem BMP Muster drauf gewünscht. Mal sehen ob ich das alles schaffe, ich versuche ja auch immer noch nebenbei mir Finnisch beizubringen und brauche auch noch Zeit für meinen Computer (spielen und programmieren und... stuff ;) ) und für meine E-Gitarre und für's Lesen und und und und... Ich frage mich ob ich vielleicht ein paar zu viele Hobbies habe. :D Na ja, wenigstens habe ich so viel Abwechslung in meinem Leben. ;)

There are a couple of things I want to try this year. For one thing, I'd really like to try dyeing yarn. I'll probably get myself the needed materials after I've bought my guitar... Also I'm now really curious about spinning. I blame the Lime & Violet Podcast I've been listening to lately for that... ;) Another thing I'd like to try is Naalbinding. I have friends who stay as vikings on medival faires, they sleep there in viking tents and all that even. I'd like to make a few small historically correct things for them. Also, I'd like to make two sweaters this year. One for my hubby-to-be because he wanted one with the BMP pattern on it. And the other one will be for me. I'll have to see which of these things I'll actually get around to because I am also teaching myself Finnish and I need time for my computer (playing and programming) and for my guitar and for reading and... I'm wondering if it might be that I have a few too many hobbies. :D Well at least I have variety in my life. ;)

Ach ja, und die Wollfee Aktion hat ja jetzt begonnen. Habe auch schon Post von meiner Wollfee erhalten - falls du dies hier liest, liebe Wollfee, grüße ich dich mal ganz lieb auf diesem Weg - und mich auch bei meiner Wollprinzessin gemeldet. Hab auch schon ein paar Ideen was ich tun könnte. Dies ist meine erste Aktion und dieser Art und ich bin total gespannt und aufgeregt und all diese guten Dinge. :)

Oh, and the Wollfee swap has now started. I already recieved an email from my Wollfee - if you are reading this, lovely fairy of the wooly nature, well met *waves* - and I've also already send an email to my wool princess... Hmm... Yarn princess sounds better, I think... Anyway, I have a couple of ideas for what I could do for her. This is my first secret pal swap and I'm really happy and excited and all that good stuff. ;)
